LBCA Releases 2018 Baseball Preseason Polls

The Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association released its preseason baseball Top 10 polls Monday afternoon just hours before the start of the 2018 season.

The poll features all seven classifications with each class boasting its top ten teams. Each class was voted on by members from the association.

In Class 5A, perennial power Barbe was selected as the preseason number one ranked program while last season’s Class 5A state champion, Central (BR), rounded out the Top 10. Division II state champion Teurlings Catholic took the top spot in the Class 4A poll with Neville, who won last season’s Class 4A state title was voted third.

St. Louis Catholic was chosen first in the Class 3A poll while 2017 Division III state champion Riverside received the most votes in Class 2A. Class 3A state champion South Beauregard will begin the season as the No. 6 team while Sterlington, who won the Class 2A championship last year was voted seventh in its new class.

Ouachita Christian is the number one team in Class 1A with last year’s champion, LaSalle, gaining the No. 10 spot. Grace Christian, the 2017 Division V state champion and Choudrant, who won the Class B state title, took the top two spots in the Class B poll.

Grace Christian was voted No. 1 in the Class C poll after taking last season’s Division V title. Class C champion Elizabeth was chosen No. 5 in its new classification (Class B).

The first regular season polls are expected to be released after Week 2.
